Jim's Pittsburg to DC ride - September 2015

Friday Sept 11, 2015  -  Drove from South Bend IN to Pittsburg PA.  11pm parked near police station on Sanctus Street in Pittsburg +/-1 mile from point state park. slept briefly in car. 1:30am Saturday started bicycling - point state park - back to S. side of river - east through busy night club area - picked up the Great Allegheny Passage trail near hot metal bridge - found a secluded area set up tent and slept 3:30am to 8:00am   ~10 miles

Saturday Sept 12, 2015  -  Pittsburg PA to Connellsville PA.  Lunch at Subway in W. Newton. purchased mud flap also. slept in hiker-biker shelter provided by the town   ~50 miles

Sunday Sept 13, 2015  -  Connellsville PA to Cumberland MD.  YMCA Hiker-Biker campground. Chris and Morgan from Pittsburg cooked diner and insisted I join them   ~90 miles

Monday Sept 14, 2015  -  Cumberland MD to Hancock MD.  Cumberland - showered @YMCA, breakfast at McDonalds, Groceries at Martins + bought a new phone charger. White Rock Camp at MP 126.5  Gary came into camp after dark, talking to himself, I offered to help hold a light from him. Next morning Gary came to talk, told me he has been living in the woods for 7 years, Age 68. Lost his ID and had trouble withdrawing money from his bank   ~62 miles

Tuesday Sept 15, 2015  -  Hancock MD to Harpers Ferry WV.  Beautiful campsite at MP 62.8, explored and went for a dip at the old Dam & Rapids near MP 62.5, took the bridge across the Potomac into Harpers Ferry charged phone at Amtrak station   ~65 miles

Wednesday Sept 16, 2015  -  Harpers Ferry WV to Washington DC.  Rode through DC Mall to National Gallery, headed west on Pennsylvania Ave (Bike lanes in center of Hwy) to HI Hostel on 11th Ave.    ~68 miles

Thursday, Sept 17, 2015   National Gallery of Art visit

Friday, Sept 18, 2015   Amtrak back to Pittsburg, happened to be the first person to make use of the new bikes on train feature and Amtrak sent an agent to take some photos and interview me.
